When she left school in 1967 and joined Poole Pottery to train as a paintress it is doubtful that anyone would have guessed how successful that career would become. Trained by the now famous traditionalists Nellie Blackmore and Gwen Haskins, Sue’s skills and knowledge broadened further when she worked with Tony Morris both on the highly collectable Calendar Plates of the seventies and the early ‘Delphis’ pieces. The late seventies saw her remarkable ‘Aubrey Beardsley’ black and white ware. More recently she has increasingly used her talent to produce highly detailed studio-ware. Her deep understanding of ceramics has led to a triumphant adaptation to ‘Living Glaze’ to make her one of the most sought after Poole artists of this genre. |
